Oak Jar
Willow Oak
7" (d) x 8" (h)
Commanding jar shaped vessel with notable variation in color between the sapwood and heartwood. It is once-turned from green wood, which can produce wonderful results as the wood moves in unpredictable ways as it quickly dries. This technique highlights the nature of the wood itself and produces natural, organic vessels. In this jar the process resulted in slight movement and some cracks, which were stabilized by a walnut key in one instance and coffee grounds in others. The latter contrast dramatically with the color of the oak, turning the cracks into a highlight of the piece.
