Blackened Oak Pot
Northern Red Oak
6.5" (d) x 4.5" (h)
Dramatic hollow-form vessel with a charred and textured body but natural colored rim. The use of fire to ebonize oak differentiates the annual growth rings and adds a tactile element to the piece. It is once-turned from green wood, which produces unique results as the wood quickly dries and moves in unpredictable ways. This technique highlights the nature of the wood itself and produces natural, organic vessels. In this piece, the result is a slightly oval shape and some charismatic fracturing around the pith.
